when editing a video, there are several things to watch out for. mainly, be sure that you throw all he scripts and everything out the window. now, you may think i am crazy, but, if you follow the script then it won't be creative. use the script in filming, but not in editing. second, be sure you have a basic idea of what you want in the film. never go into an editing program without a goal or at least and idea. third, use music! music and sound fx make the movie. without them (at appropriate times) your video may not be as good. also, be sure to use a good, solid, microphone on your camera if you are using video audio. otherwise it will look bad even though it only sounds bad. i would use a rode videomic for novices. oh, and please don't use a one person for two characters, i men, really come on. be sure you have a set or at least props. otherwise it is just you and your buddy acting out a scene. finally, when shootin events, use appropriate music, titles, and transistions. don't don't DON'T use a cheesy little premade transition like the picture turning into a bell and diinging away. i know it may look cute but it absolutely kills your video. most of th time cuts, fades, and crsoofades are all you will need. with editing you can make break even the greatest of films. just be sure to have a descent program, mic, and camera and you'll be good to go!
